Wax & Water — Why the Base Matters As Much As the Fragrance

The hidden foundation of every great fragrance

I didn’t start Wax & Willow to create another home fragrance brand. I started it because I wanted something I could trust in my own home. That was it! Simple, but very real.
I spent over a year researching and testing everything behind fragrance — not just scent, but what holds it. The wax. The diffuser base. The way a room mist carries through the air.
I tried, adjusted, changed direction, and started again more times than I can count.
Not because I was chasing perfection. But because I wanted it to feel right.

From the beginning, I made a few clear decisions:
All Candles would be made with soy wax only. All Reed Diffusers would use a soy-based base system. Room Mist formulations would be carefully developed for safe, balanced use.
And everything would be built using high-quality, industry-standard fragrance oils, selected and tested for home fragrance use.
There is: No Paraffin. No Silicone. No Alcohol. No Unnecessary Fillers.
Everything is Vegan, Cruelty-free and formulated without Phthalates or Parabens.
Not as a statement. But as a standard.

Building fragrance from the ground up
At Wax & Willow, we believe great fragrance begins with great foundations. The fragrance may be the star of the show — but the base is the stage that allows it to perform. Without it, even the most beautiful scent cannot truly shine.
That's why we obsess over every detail you'll probably never notice. So that when you light a Wax & Willow candle, the only thing you have to think about is how it makes you feel.

Frequently asked questions
What type of wax does Wax & Willow use?
We use sustainably sourced soy wax — a clean-burning, biodegradable, plant-based alternative to paraffin. Soy wax burns cooler and longer, producing less soot and a more even scent throw.
Why is soy wax better than paraffin?
Soy wax is plant-based and renewable, while paraffin is a petroleum by-product. Soy burns cleaner, releases fragrance more evenly, and is fully biodegradable. It's also a softer wax, which is why our candles cure for several days before being labelled.
How long do Wax & Willow candles burn for?
Our standard candles offer approximately 40–45 hours of burn time when burned correctly (3–4 hours per session). Larger candles and our Spa range offer up to 60 hours.
Why does my candle tunnel?
Tunnelling happens when a candle isn't burned long enough on first light. To prevent it, always let the wax melt fully across the surface on the first burn (typically 2–3 hours). After that, trim the wick to 5mm before every relight.
